Help: Youtube (via Internet Browser) Keeps Crashing my Wii U
« on: September 29, 2013, 01:48:14 PM »
I'm not sure if there is something more I should be doing, I ran updates and hard reset my WiiU but anytime I open up a Youtube video my system freezes. Any Suggestions?

I had an issue like that and I deleted cookies from the Wii U browser.

People online say that it can be caused by a bandwith issue and also by ports being blocked by your router.

Here is EA's help page on the subject of ports.

Quote
Players having difficulties connecting to online play or to other players on their Wii U console likely need to open, or forward, their online ports.

Nintendo recommends opening:

    UDP: 1 through 65535
    TCP: 1 through 65535

https://help.ea.com/article/what-ports-should-i-open-when-playing-on-the-wii-u

Try setting your router to DMZ mode and see if it helps.

Had the same issue since saturday morning. It's definitely Google's doing, they changed something that broke Wii U browser.

Deleting cookies won't help. Nor ports ā€œadviceā€ (you can rely on EA for giving incredibly bad advices like opening ALL you ports for everyone).

I even downloaded and tried Youtube official app, but it also works randomly. At least it doesn't crash...

I guess google people become irritated that Wii U had the superior Youtube experience and decided to ruin watching their videos on Wii U as well, like they did on PC. Do no evil, my ass.

Say Word? The fact the "real" youtube app does't allow for GamePad watching of videos is a greek tragedy. So does this coinside with this rumored "summer/fall update? Sometime I just wonder...wtf?!?!

Small update.

With latest update Youtube in browser doesn't crash anymore but you can still get occasional "this video not available on this device" messages.

I found that going into settings and setting "user-agent" to iPad fixes it. Sites start thinking you're on tablet and give you touch optimized layout and you will start getting all the videos you want.

It's yet another a stupid bug on Google's side. These guys just won't stop, don't they. They're not content with being a major pain in the ass on my work (hate Chrome and it's constant auto-updating so, so much), they also feel the need to ruin my private time at home as well!

Nintendo would actually do much better to allow Chrome on the WiiU.
I think it says on the box, 'No Hispanics' " - Jeff Green of EA

For me as a professional, Chrome is by far the worst browser i work with. The most astonishing thing is -- they keep making it worse each week. Week after week they keep updating that **** and introducing new behaviors that will only be changed again week later.

Also, Chrome is a huge memory whore.

And it all doesn't matter at all because Wii U browser has the same engine as Chrome.

I really wanted they still worked with Opera for Nintendo hardware. But alas, Opera is pretty much done...

Opera will not be done as long as I continue using Opera 16. <3

Opera was done since 12. They scrapped their own engine and lost the bulk of programming staff years ago. One can even say it was done with 8, 9 or even or 7.2.

A sad example of pioneering and highly innovative company squandering it's potential completely.
