Also, we know PIAC's not winning the most "intelectual" user award.

The Perm forgot about us. But we are not offended, are we Precious? No. We mustn't get angry at masterPerm. Master loves us despite is obvious inability to show is affection to an underpriveliged and malnutritioned river person who lives off raw fish to survive. We don't hate masterPerm at all.

My votes are in.  Good luck everybody.

My votes aren't necessarily too precise.  I know a lot of people by their avatars only, and some I just can't think of offhand.
And I forgot to mention Knowsnothing. . . put him among my funniest, okay?

I didn't know that Verminer was still here.  I remember him from the other board, quite the smart ass, and funny too.  Is Verminer "Verminer" or goes under a new name?

As for a catagory, how about Laziest Poster:  I'd nominate myself.

Perm, thanks for the list mention.

He would mnake the list though if he sent me som good pron or something.

cubedcanuck is just a conceited know-it-all who thinks his crap smells better than anyone else's.  He also thinks that Nintendo should follow MS's lead, since they are doing such a good job.  Basically, he's the prime example of a troll.

Of course we all just wish he would go away and we try to ignore him most of the time.

well i wasn't actually going to listen to the bribes, but i'm not going to turn down free pr0n , seriously though, all the votes are comming along pretty much as i expected, with a few surprises for good measure.

also, how does everyone feel about me voting? i have my selections (i wont vote for my self) but i dont really think its that ethical to cast votes if im running it, perhaps i just vote if its a tie breaker.

well why didn't you say you could vote for yourself!
*ego inflates to hot air balloon proportions*

I've put my votes in. No question about my nominations.
Though I DO wish one more category was added:
"The poster you really want out of here".
I think, after what some of you guys have posted just now, that you all know who's going to win that one.

But then I'm just a lowly poster who gets by loving Natalie Portman and Kiera Knightley. So why does my opinion count? This whole thing is just for fun isn't it? Despite the bribes and secret deals
I reckon, for the CaRaZy and funniest poster, it's a toss between Infernal Monkey and Piac. Yes siree bob! It's gonna be the ultimate showdown of pie tossing and who can eat the most fairy-bread!
Title: RE:PGC Forum User Awards!
Post by: Shift Key on October 19, 2003, 10:43:58 PM
I can't believe Infernal hasn't been consider for the CaRaZy award? *weirded out*

A couple of other possible award ideas:
"Biggest Simpsons Quoter" - a couple of contenders off the top of my head already.
"Best Flame Award" - nuff said.
"Lord of the Wang" - No reason, just something to be proud of!
"Dunce Cap Award" - for the stupidest thing posted.
"WTF award" - the weirdest link posted.

Will the fairy bread be saying "Hey, hey, hello?" and will it offer me advice on the enemies I'm facing?

If not, then count me out! =o

"Erm, you DID reply, so it obviously matters a bit."

No it really doesnt matter, and why would it? I will never meet this person, so why on earth should I care what he/she has to say about me?
I do however find it funny that someone who posts threads specifically about switching from IE, and then yells at a mod (super) because he says he likes IE, would call me opinionated. Thus the reason for my post.
See the point is, I dont care much about the game industry as a whole, I dont care who survives the console war or doesnt, I dont care what anyone else thinks of games I like, I like some NIN games (ED, Metroid,), I hate some (sunshine, Zelda), the same goes for MS and Sony, I dont think NIN makes the best games all the time, I do think their console is the best this gen, and so on. The problem is my point of view doesnt agree with his, so I must be opinionated.
Simple isnt it?

Yeah well, whatever the other two categories are, I don't care!  That's the one I really want.  We had a yearly awards thing on the last forum I was a regular at, and I beat out a guy who posted a picture of himself in a schoolgirl outfit for craziest member.  Man you people SUCK!

Here's a few facts about ninja:

1)  Sniffed an entire powdered cinnamon heart in Physics class on Valentine's Day.
2)  Eats canned soup out of the can with a spoon.
3)  Eats ramen dry out of the bag.
4)  Eats material from the grease traps under the grill at a fast food place.
5)  Was 1 hour late for his own high school graduation.
6)  Once ate half a jar of powdered instant coffee before going to work.
7)  Tried sniffing instant coffee, but it wouldn't go up his nose.
8)  Sleeps with a katana.
9)  Has a Nintendo logo tattooed on his right shoulder.
A)  Ordered a pizza long distance for someone on another forum, and had it delivered to his math class.
B)  Has mixed THC, Alcohol, Caffeine, and Diphenhydramine all at once.
C)  Has played video games for 40 hours straight, with only bathroom breaks.
D)  Believes that a good supply of hentai and video games can replace a girlfriend.
E)  Knows how to make military grade C4
F)  Will likely do most of the things above again.

Diphenhydramine causes drowsiness.2 Alcohol may intensify this effect and increase the risk of accidental injury.3 To prevent problems, people taking diphenhydramine or diphenhydramine-containing products should avoid alcohol.

hehe...

Good lord, Grey.  That had to have an interesting effect.

That it did.    The hangover is never pleasant after doing that, but the effect is bloody amazing.

I should probably elaborate on #6 though.  I worked at a fast food place at the time, and I was scheduled to work during suppertime.  There was also a new girl who was working her first day that day.

I worked the kitchen ALL by myself for supper, and I made GOOD service times.  There were other cooks, but I didn't let them do anything.  The new girl was terrified of me for weeks afterward.

You've made a believer out of me, Ninja, but it'd be unfair to change my entry now and vote for you in THREE categories.

Also, I've done a lot of those things, namely eating Ramen noodles dry- in my opinion, they're better that way, especially if you put the little packet of seasoning on. And whenever I make soup, a good portion of it always ends up in my stomach before it ever gets heated. You beat my record for gaming, though, only a measly 18 hours, but I'll top you, my friend, just you wait.

ramen noodles are good dry....mostly though i fill the cup with water and only put it in the microwave for about 10 seconds...that way the noodles are only partially limp and still crunchy...at the same time i have some great chicken flavored water.

I've had dry ramen before, and it's not bad.  I prefer it when it's done, though.  The soggy noodle thing you do sounds nasty however.  I can't stand it when my food it cold, unless it's ice cream or something. . . it has to be burning hot, or at least warm.  Cold pizza?  Never.

The only thing I eat cold is leftover pizza.  If I heat it up it gets all soggy and greasy.  Bleh

Well that's better.  But why don't you just unvote for me in the other 2 categories then, and just vote for me in the one then?

But I ain't saying who I voted for in any of the other categories.  Given the limited amount of categories, I had to leave A LOT of people off my list.

I really don't know why you guys call it ramen noodles. Is it a brand or something?
Just call it 2-minute noodles!
Having them dry is ok, but there is actually a chip snack that is like dry 2-minute noodles, called Mamee Noodles! You can buy the good quality foil-pack (which stay nice and crunchy) ones at Woolies or Coles, etc, but then there's the el cheapo bag ones you get from Asian Stores (where the crunch goes a little soft).

That's because you get EXTREMELY sick of them after a solid diet of ramen for a month.  Even as a starving man, I could barely stand the sight of my daily meal after a while.

During the height of my poverty this summer, I was eating 5 bags of ramen per day and nothing more.  That lasted for about a month, and was worsened due to the fact that I used over half of my remaining savings buying the damned GCN demo disc.  (But I don't regret it.  The food would be long since gone, but I still have my disc.  )  That which does not kill us makes us stronger.

I have actually put on some weight since then though.  I have a couple pairs of jeans that I was wearing this summer.  One of them was way too big, and I had to wear a belt to keep them up.  The other was a little too small, but fit me fine anyways.   (You try finding cheap jeans in size 33x36.)  The small pair I can't wear anymore unless I leave the top button undone.  The bigger pair now fit me fine without a belt.  Man it's good having a good amount of food stored around my waist for easy access again.

I do kind of regret half assed breaking a promis I made to Ms. Pikmin though.  I told her that I would try to eat all the food groups, and I would cook a good meal for myself now and then when I got my new job.  I have plenty of money now, but I still don't eat right.  I buy myself one meal a day at the cafeteria at work (usually something with fries and gravy), and I don't eat much else.  Starvation kind of sets into you after a while, and it's hard to start eating again.  I suppose it's just as well though, as I don't really want to get fat, and my belly isn't empty, and living on one meal a day doesn't seem to be doing me any harm.

I probably do need the care of both a dentist and an optometrist right now though, and my health care just got revoked and I have been too lazy to fill out the necessary forms, but I will get on that one day.  I still have to pay the bills this month and repay my parents for the money they loaned me, and I will mail that out at the same time I think.

The best way to have a healthy diet is just to read the labels on food items...It's ridiculous how food companies hide how bad snack foods are for you...example:

Look at the back of a pack of those Elf cookies(damn it, I forgot what they are called)...It shows total fat as something like 4 grams of fat.  That may not seem bad, that is until you read the serving size.  Serving size = 1 cookie...WTF!?...Who only eats one cookie!?  I now see why I was a fat porker up until a year and half ago

Just wondering, PIAC, did I get any votes?  You see, at this moment my Self-Esteem rating is up 3.45%, and any votes would raise that even higher, gaining more potential stock holders.  If I didn't get any posts, it still doesn't matter because it means I'm an okay guy, and my self-esteem rating would stay at about the same level.

Title: RE:PGC Forum User Awards!

Yeah, I get worked up too.  Mouse, you're actually a good lesson for me in learning to not let myself get so upset over what gets posted.  I am the type of person who can let too much of my real feelings show and let myself get sucked into debates that are far too personal.  There have been times when, after getting into one of those too personal debates, I've actually been to the point of almost crying by the time I log off.  That's when I know I need to get a grip and stay away from that stuff.
Title: RE: PGC Forum User Awards!
Post by: Grey Ninja on October 22, 2003, 05:46:03 PM
Mouse, you know that I have dropped out of a lot of discussions with you because you meddled in matters that I prefer not to debate for the most part.  I probably get more worked up than anyone else in here.  I clearly recognize that I have uncontrollable moments of rage, but whatever.  Ms. Pikmin, I know exactly how you feel, and it sometimes seriously shocks me just how kindred we are in spirit.

Today I have been pissed off the whole day though.  Work was long, boring, and way too hot.  After work I checked Walmart for Rogue Squadron III and SSX 3, and found that SSX 3 came in for PS2 and Xbox today, but not GameCube.  I was SERIOUSLY pissed off about that.  I was even more pissed off when I got home and found my roommate playing it.  I have been swearing ever since.

I get worked up much easier online- if you met me in person you'd see I'm a pretty calm. If it's something personal, I'll let loose, but otherwise I keep it toned down. Obviously, the internet is entirely different for me- I express myself MUCH better in typing than in speech. The ideas in my head just don't connect as well as they do when I'm on a computer. That kind of urges me into intense arguments. I was much more intense at IGN since the boards moved so much faster and there were twenty times more idiots.

I do like the idea of being a living breathing example, though, even if it is a bad one.

I realize this is a bit late but....Congrats to the winners! One question though. Who the hell is G@yCube? (apparently the gods have forbidden me from typing out the real name) I don't remember this person. It's obvious WHY we *sorely* miss him (her?) but I don't ever remember seeing him post.

Mouse, I hope what I said wasn't taken as a put down on you.  I was trying to say that I need to not take things so personally and not let myself get so upset by what people here say in a debate.

Like you said, you like to debate.  It doesn't seem to be something close to your heart when you are expressing your opinion.  The problem for me winds up being that I'm expressing an opinion based on my experiences and emotions while you are basing yours on something else.  Do you see what I mean?  For you it's a debate, for me it's trying to make someone see my side of an emotionally charged issue.

Anyway, I hope you get what I'm saying.  I'm not trying to put you down.  Although, God knows you can be seriously hard headed.

Actually, for moderation, I think there's more of that you don't see than you actually do see. I'm pretty sure Mike H used to clean up more garbage than ANYBODY back when we had ezboard, if I read that admin log thing right, despite the fact that he pretty much never posted.

I didn't take what you meant in any bad way, if it wasn't at the same time truthful. I can take criticism if I see reason for it, and I'm well aware that I have a hair pin trigger.

Whatever happened to Mr. Hrusecky, Ty? I miss him and his Buddy Christ avatar.

I feel the exact same way when I'm discussing an issue.  If I don't feel emotionally attached to a controversial issue, I won't even reply...

My mother even says I'm too soft for my own good...

I'll get emotionally attached if it's a personal issue for me, but overall Ms.Pikmin's right, I see things as more of a debate than an emotional struggle.

Will there be an award for who has the best looking telephone? I'll be in for the chance!
I was playing with my toys last night (what?) and discovered my gigantic-o collection of stickers I'd saved from the Royal Shows from the past few years. I covered my phone with them, now it looks ultra pretty/horrible. I've even stabbed holes where the stickers are covering the ear/mouth bit. TAKE THAT, LIFESTYLE PROGRAMS!

The coloured usernames don't show up in topics, but on the active users list people in the NWR Staff group have blue names and admins are red. That's how it looks on my end anyway...

i'd say person who has been new in this last year, people who were on hiatus for 3 years might qualify lol..i kinda remembered mop_it_up when he returned

i would say all votes should be in by thursday, and i'll tally them up and release them on friday. Please name your message NWR FORUM CONTEST [your screen name]

that'll be it for new categories I already have 2 messages with votes( maxi and goldenphoenix), if i add any more categories everyone who sends a message will have to resend

I would guess that any new person that was here from January 1st 2008 to now would qualify.Aside from those that haven't been here in a while and just started posting in the past year.

If that is the criteria than I'll have a tough decision.

Zap I think you will be in the running for another category.

I agree with Zap. You either find some award for every poster who posts on a regular basis so they feel like they are part of the group, or you highlight an elite group of people that may or may not deserve the award because they spam the boards with every little thought they have while ostracising those people who don't have the time to post except may a few times a week. (Yes, I want to feel like a member of the group and not a satellite orbiting)

I think the original idea behind showing post counts was one way to reward those dedicated few who make the boards seem more alive than they are...

In the year between when I joined in September 2004 and September 2005, I made all of 22 posts, so I wouldn't say I ever qualified for being active during that time. I'm kind of surprised to hear you say you remember me... those old posts of mine almost seem like they were written by somebody else. It's crazy how much can happen in three years.

Anyways, if the category is "Best New Poster" then I actually would qualify for that as I am new to posting. If it were named "Best New Member" then I wouldn't count because my account is 4 1/2 years old. If you vote for me then I will bake you all delicious sugar cookies with homemade pink frosting.

Zap is just upset because he isn't funny, ranty or memorable enough to even get a nod in the awards :) :p .

Ranty? You're right but the only reason I'm not ranty is because I am so fuming mad I can't even think of something to say. The Nintendo World Report forum awards are the most self-absorbed, superficial thing I've seen since the last time Nintendo World Report displayed post counts, or the last time the Rat posted about how it's been a long time since the last time he's posted, or the last time Uncle Bob exposed himself for the world, or the last time they babblecasted about whatever the heck video game they're playing at the moment. Time and time again, Nintendo World Report forums has proven itself to be a gaggle of self-promoting yuppies. Have you ever heard the aphorism "Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics..."? Well winning a forum award is like winning at Mavis Beacon, even a monkey could eventually do it; and by looking at some Funhouse threads, it seems like Planet of the Apes  isn't that far off. Seriously a forum award? It didn't use to be this way. Nintendo World Report forums was once a small community of monks toiling away in anonymity, without sigs or forum 'titles', or other frills of modern foruming. Instead it was a bit like another classic movie 2001: full of long, zen-like moments of silence, punctuated by brilliant social commentary about where we are, where we're going, etc but without the fancy special effects of today. Instead we've become a Lucas/Star Wars vision of the future, with evil around every asteroid field (nongamers), lots of action and running around from planet to planet, and backstabbing each other (Mafia), the dark post-modern overtones of the emperor (mods), gray/black color palettes (HD), etc. Now I'm not saying the awards are a bad idea per se, or that I don't enjoy the action/adventure aspect of the post-modern Star Wars films and their emphasis on working together to defeat evil, it just seems like a way to legitimize long-winded posters without taking into account the other many factors involved in well-informed, text-based, video game-related discourse.

I'm just doing it to add variety to the awards. I think it would be funner to see different people get them, and if one person swept the awards it could bother the people who think this is just a "my ego is bigger than yours" matter. This should just be a fun thing, not some serious event. Kind of like the 'most likely to..' awards that you vote on at the end of high school.

Now someone is just trying too hard... :p

All kidding, I understand where you are coming from. In the other forums that I've visited the awards always ended sour because people would take them too seriously even though its just a stupid popularity contest. Most of the time they were canceled before they even began.

But whatever, its not like either of us had a chance anywhere. Not even Rossdower could save us.

Wow, these were harder to choose than I thought, for all of them there were multiple users I wanted to choose. Except the negative categories, I actually didn't want to pick anyone for those two...

If I didn't vote for you then please accept this kiss instead!

Well I was going to leave my negative ones blank because I don't like those categories, but maybe I'll vote GP for worst poster since all she does now is pick on me.  :P *STICKS TONGUE OUT AT GP*

You can choose me as "Worst Poster" since that's the one I'm hoping to win. Shouldn't the award go to somebody who actually wants it?

I SHOULD BE WORST POSTER!

Why?

I defended EA... That's blasphemy right there! Give me the award and label me the devil for eternity, please!

Considering your Birdo fetish picture you posted earlier today I might just vote for you in the worst poster category. And to think you were in the running for funniest poster...tut, tut.

Yeah, and Snipper64 will probably come in here and also contend for the title.

DAaaMan64 already has the award for "Most Terrible Username" so he doesn't really need another award.

Woooo! Best Moderator!

I'd like to thank first and foremost the forum members, couldn't have gotten this without you.

Second, the spambots. You make my job fun. Even though you can't read my sarcastic retorts and ban messages, I still enjoy writing and posting them.

And of course I must also thank NWR for allowing me to impose my will upon moderate these boards.

Alright, looks like I have my work cut out for me. Tell me who sent in those other three votes so I can beat them with a bat bake them lovely cakes with pink and purple icing swirls to get back on their good sides.

Eight of my ten votes won! Hah! What's my prize?

I don't think there should have been a worst poster and 'glad they're gone' category. That opens the door to bashing people needlessly. This should be fun and lighthearted, not tearing people down.

For the "glad they're gone" award the Google Bot won, which is a non-sentient robot. As for "Worst Poster", I think people should have voted for either Stogi because he seems to take pride in making bad posts, or me because I campaigned for it. So it could still work too.

Or maybe it could be taken as constructive criticism? That's what I'm taking away from this by not winning anything...

I'm fine with who won, and I've stated it on many occasions, hurting their feelings is something I am not concerned with.

The awards should have included a clause which made you provide examples.

Really? Yay!

*Holds up his Louie award

I want to thank all the four people who made this honor possible, and the members who put up with my Brawl criticisms and had fun doing it! I want to thank my best friend Smash_Brother for always believing in me and may he rest in pieces in heaven...or hell. I don't know, he was a guy of dubious intentions, I'm sure both God and Satan debated where to put him...

Anyways, I always want to thank NWR for being such a great place despite all the Ians of the world piling up against the Wii, and finally I want to thank my lord and savior, the man that made it all possible... MIYAMOTO!

THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT!

Looks like Pap64 wouldn't have won any such "Most Observant Member" award. :P

There should have been a clause where only those who were going to vote could be voted for. That's the only way I had a chance to win anything, short of actually attempting to qualify for one... Too much work.
