Okay that link there^ talks about a group, Scientific Atlanta I think? They have developed plans to make a "set-top-box" and that's about it. But this author has jumped to the conclusion that they will be competing with XBOX and GameCube in some real way. Now read the article. It's well written and kind of interesting (that's why I bothered with this) but although I find it interesting I can't see any real way that the console maker trio that currently run the market are going to bat an eye at this thing. What do you think?

The console market is oversaturated, new entrants will go down immediately (Phantom, DISCover, APEXtreme, ...).

I'm living in the UK and i've never heard of any of those. They're dead before they even reach us.

I can make my own set-top box.  I'll call it "Super Box".

DISCover is the company that invented the technology to let you have a machine that concentrates on PC games but it only licenses the technology.  ApeXtreme is a machine by Apex that got the license from DISCover to make a machine that does so.  I can understand if you think Phantom might fail but the ApeXtreme is too damn good IMO to go down easily.  I just can't say anything really crappy about it.

As for this new competitor it helps if they advertise for how they will sell it.  Like show it on TV like you would show TV cable and not another game console.

Okay, so DISCover licenses technology. Leaves enough entrants out there. There can only be two profitable consoles.

It's a willing victim for the meat grinder (the competition between the big ones), yes. Hell, I've heard of another noone-knows-or-cares comapny wanting to release a console by now, that's clearly too many!
