Here it is: our top 5 3DS games.
5. Kid Icarus: Uprising
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Sora
Release Date:: March 23, 2012
Review Score:: 9.5/10, 8/10
When a series is dormant for 20 years, reviving it can be very challenging. Luckily, Kid Icarus: Uprising was a game up to the task, taking the basic mythology of Pit, Palutena, and the gang and creating a vivid world with a charming, dopey humor, epic anime-inspired story, and action-packed combat. The controls might have a high difficulty curve, but it's worth surpassing the threshold to learn how to spin the virtual trackball on the touch screen to expertly move Pit as he faces Medusa and so much more. The single-player isn't all, though, as the deep weapon crafting system and great multiplayer make Pit's grand return even better
4. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Bandai Namco
Release Date:: October 3, 2014
Review Score:: 8.5/10
To some, the Wii U version of Smash Bros. supplanted the 3DS version, but that doesn't take away from how incredible Smash Bros. on 3DS is. It takes every intricacy of Smash Bros. and makes it work flawlessly on the small screen. It even has countless little touches that make your 3DS feel like your own personal Smashing device, too. The usual gameplay is fantastic as always, and even the exclusive Smash Run is more fun that expected. If you have a New 3DS, you can even use Amiibo with it now.
3. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Nintendo
Release Date:: June 9, 2013
Review Score:: 9/10
For three entries, Animal Crossing delivered a very similar experience across GameCube, DS, and Wii. On the 3DS, the series experienced a renaissance. Animal Crossing: New Leaf took everything good about Animal Crossing and made it even better and more compelling. It put the player more in control of the town as the mayor. It added in fun online and StreetPass mechanics. At its core, New Leaf is still the same old Animal Crossing, but the wrapper is so sweet and delectable, making it feel fresh for the first time in a decade.
2. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Nintendo
Release Date:: November 22, 2013
Review Score:: 9.5/10
A sequel to Link to the Past was always a ballsy proposition, but against most odds, A Link Between Worlds pulls it off. This adventure succeeded in delivering classic Zelda goodness with a variety of new twists and ideas. It was the perfect vehicle for trying out new Zelda concepts, as the familiar environment made things such as borrowing items and non-linear dungeon order feel safer. Certainly, the fact that the dungeons and puzzles were as wonderful as they come helped greatly. Throw in a dynamite soundtrack and you've got what we consider to be the second-best game on the 3DS.
1. Super Mario 3D Land
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Nintendo
Release Date:: November 13, 2011
Review Score:: 9.5/10
The first few worlds of Super Mario 3D Land certainly don't feel like the best game on the system, but as the game opens up past its first eight worlds and onto the second group of eight worlds, 3D Land asserts its dominance as a masterpiece that is a showcase for the system in the same kind of way that Super Mario 64 was for the Nintendo 64. 3D Land's boundless creativity bred awesome challenges and breathtaking levels, all of which were perfectly engineered for the portable play style. Somehow, the team at EAD Tokyo blended the best aspects of 2D and 3D Mario and created the finest game on the 3DS less than a year after the system released.
