Are you in need of a beautiful clock?

This week saw the release of the third set of songs for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, as well as a couple more titles, including a freebie. Here’s a look at what came out this week on the eShop in Japan:

Downloadable Titles

Bijin Tokei (Beauty Clock) – FREE

Virtual Console

Game Boy Gallery 2 (Game & Watch Gallery 2, Game Boy)– 400 yen

DLC

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Songs (4 songs) – 150 yen each

Video Content

There are a handful of new videos on the eShop this week, with many of the videos coming from upcoming or recently released first-party products. Interestingly enough, there is a streaming 3D video showing off the capabilities of the new Bijin Tokei (Beauty Clock). There is also a preview video for Kid Icarus: Uprising, as well as a video showcasing the beautiful cel-shaded graphical style of Fire Emblem Kakusei (which you can see below). The Kid Icarus video streams from the eShop in 2D and runs a little over five minutes, while the Fire Emblem video, also in 2D, has a run time of about two minutes.

Square Enix is gearing up for the upcoming release of Kingdom Hearts 3D and this week has included a compilation video featuring three different 15-second television commercials. A new video for the new DLC for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy was also released.

Software Impressions

This week, I went with the freebie, Beauty Clock, for my weekly download. This is another one of those strange titles/applications that will more than likely never see the light of day outside of Japan. It’s a pretty simple concept when it gets down to it—it’s a clock application with beautiful women holding up the time. Every minute that passes by, the picture changes. At the top of the hour, there is a short video of one of these cute girls smiling and entering the area holding the current time. Mind you, this is all done in glorious 3D, so you can really feel the connection with your lady friends. The bottom screen lets you know her name, where she lives, blood type, height and size (including bust size and weight), occupation, favorite spot, and even a special message.

Believe it or not, there are a number of different things you can do with this application. You can set up to five different alarms, in which you can also choose the alert melody, the loudness, how many times you want to have it alert you (weekly, daily, etc), and even the color of the alert. There is also a timer included, as well as the ability to change or turn off the background music.

I’m really happy I didn’t pay a single yen for this application. While I do think quite a bit of time went into the product (there are numerous models used for every minute of the day, for crying out loud!), and it does exactly what it sets out to do, it just isn’t practical.

Talkback

Blood type? Really? Wow.
I am ashamed to say that I want this clock application badly. It'll never come outside of Japan I am sure.

In Japan, it's commonly believed that blood type defines your personality, character, and compatibility (kind of like astrological signs elsewhere), so you'll often see people's profiles with that information. I guess that would be another good Famicast topic.
