Hands on with Frank West in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for WiiWii

This was my first time playing TvC, and while I’m actually a huge fighting game fan, I was unaware of any of the new systems and game play mechanics introduced into Capcom’s latest cross-over fighter. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much of an idea of what was going on. That being said, I thought it would be a fun opportunity to try out Mr. West before the general public had a chance to use him upon the game's release.

As with the rest of the cast Frank’s arsenal of attacks hearken back to the game that he was introduced in - Dead Rising. His regular attacks include normal short kicks and jabs, as well as stronger attacks where he utilizes objects, including a baseball bat, that he can use in the game.

We spotted a long booth with several empty Wii kiosks, with no line at all – mustn’t be a Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy we thought, until we realised what it was: the Wii-exclusive Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles single-player adventure RPG game, the Crystal Bearers!

When I started up the game the booth assistant asked me if I wanted to start in the middle of a level, or from the beginning of the game.

I thought for a moment, then decided on starting a new game from the start, figuring I could at least see the opening cinema and maybe learn a bit about the story.

Nintendo Is 120 Years Old Today!WiiDS

In the 1950s, Nintendo decided to venture into other venues. They created a chain of love hotels, established a cab company, owned a TV network, and ran a food company. These ventures failed and Nintendo lost money, with sales of the cards also slowing.

In the 70s, Nintendo entered the electronic era, a product focus that continued to this day. In 1975 they entered the arcade scene with EVR Race, and in 1977 they released their first videogame console named the "Color TV Game". Years later, the release of Donkey Kong, designed by Shigeru Miyamoto, would be their biggest arcade hit.

Help Me, I'm a Gachapon Addict!

I started noticing that these "toy egg" vending machines were everywhere in Japan, not only in arcades and videogame stores, but even supermarkets and shopping malls.

More often than not they were tiny figures or toys from various animes, that most people outside of Japan have probably never even heard of.

However' one out of every twenty or so I'd spot a rare Nintendo-related treat.

The beauty of them is that they aren't cheap-looking knock-offs; they are Nintendo approved, and therefore look exactly like they should (most of the time).

Kotaku received an early version of an October Walmart advertisement that announces a Wii price drop. The advertisement specifies that it isn't a temporary "price rollback" which are often advertised.

Unfortunately, the early version of the advertisement doesn't specify the new price point or if anything will be omitted, such as the Wii Sports pack-in game.

Nintendo will be attending the Kyoto CMEX 2009 event, which could provide for the opportunity to formally announce a price drop. The event runs from September 26 to October 4.

"Old-school Sonic fans have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay," Ballough said.

Furthermore, Ballough explained that while many enjoyed the daytime levels in Sonic Unleashed, fans have truly desired a title that plays like the original Genesis Sonic games.

"Project Needlemouse is that critical first step that brings Sonic back to his 2D roots," Ballough said.

In addition, Ballough stated that, "you can definitely expect HD graphics," in Sonic's new 2D adventure. This statement makes the likelihood of a Wii release lower.

Press materials for the event mentioned that the Nintendo World Store would be transformed into feudal Japan. Before arriving at the store, I must admit my imagination ran a bit wild and I expected to be dazzled by the decorations. The store did indeed have a nice array of decorations including plastic swords and bright red folding fans, yet my savage thirst for an authentic trip back to the Tokugawa Period was not fulfilled. Nevertheless, it was still pretty cool to observe the disparity between the classic Nintendo merchandise, such as R.O.B. and the ancient Japanese adornments.

Playing Outdoors Causes Dangerous Behavior In Children

by Mike Gamin - 7:14 A.M.

"...he got mad at his parents and stole their car after they made him quit playing..." is one of the first things the Jalopnik article says. They must be referring to video games! What's this? He was upset they told him to come in from playing outside?! How could this be? Video games cause evilness! The outdoors is where kids are supposed to go to grow up healthy and well adjusted!

While the story itself is somewhat tragic (luckily the child seems to be mostly unharmed), I think it's an important one for parents to read. Had they yelled at him to stop playing Grand Theft Auto the world would be up in arms against the evils of video games. I bet very few would blame the parents for letting their 9-year-old play such a game. However, this story will most likely be forgotten in a matter of days because there is nothing easy to blame..
