It's finally Metroid Time.
Nintendo announced Metroid Prime 4 is in development for Switch during this morning's Nintendo Digital Spotlight, kicking off E3 2017. The announcement was a title card, offering no details on developer or release target.

This makes me happy
I hope it doesn't come out until 2020. After the embarrassment to the human race Metriod fans have been the last several years they don't deserve any form of happyness in the near future.
See, Other M didn't kill the series so now the cancer that is the Metriod fanbase can finally SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!
Nintendo wins E3 in my heart with this announcement.
There's something poetic about James posting this news article. :)
The announcement almost makes it seem like they just started development. I hope that isn't so, otherwise what the heck have they been doing since Tropical Freeze?
I think three Prime games was enough, but oh well, at least a Metroid is in the works. I wonder if it will still follow the same formula, or if it will try new things.

Do we even know if it is Retro developing it?
MetroidFan: I don't wanna hear 'bout no motherfucking ifs. All I wanna hear from your ass is, "You ain't got no problem, MetroidFan, I'm on the motherfucker. Go back in there, chill them playas out and wait for the games, which should be coming directly".
Nintendo: You ain't got no problem, MetroidFan. I'm on the motherfucker. Go back in there and chill them playas out and wait for Prime 4, which is in development currently.
MetroidFan: You makin' Prime 4?
Nintendo: Oh, you feel better, motherfucker?
MetroidFan: Shit, Nintendo, that's all you had to say!

This is a little harsh.

Eurogamer has said it is a different team. Not Retro.

Seriously.
Criticism against Other M were fair albeit littered with hyperbole. I liked Other M from a gameplay standpoint (besides, of course, the uncommon Where's Waldo? sections). Other M may not have killed Metroid, but it sold poorly enough to stall the main series for nearly a decade.
Other M is probably why we didn't get a Wii U Metroid game and that's really sad because the gamepad could have been pretty neat there.
Never thought I'd see this day. I think I got some Phazon in my eyes *sniff*

Go to the ER, man. Or at least flush your eyes out with water for 15 seconds. Phazon is a highly radioactive substance that causes mutation and/or death.

Eurogamer also repeated the BS rumor from that unreliable Emily Rogers claiming that Breath of the Wild would be delayed until this summer. So i'd be skeptical of what they say unless it's backed up by a credible company.
It is confirmed in the Nintendo-issued "fact sheet". It's a "talented new development team" developing Prime 4. Just Google "Metroid Prime 4 Fact Sheet". Or here's an example:
https://mynintendonews.com/2017/06/13/metroid-prime-4-fact-sheet/
Emily Rogers has been more right than wrong, and I'm still not sure why people go out of their way to pretend she's not at least somewhat credible.

Wii U sales certainly didn't help that cause.
The funny thing is, Eurogamer ran with the story, crediting Rogers and stating her information "tallies with information provided to Eurogamer by sources close to Nintendo."
Which means that a 'credible' source passed the incorrect information to multiple sources - but when it was shown to be incorrect, Emily gets the blame.
Of note, Emily updated her blog about a month later to note that the information was no longer correct.
